Some New Staff Members

Message:
We just wanted to take a moment to introduce you to some of our newest staff members.

First there's ctg, who hails from Finland and once met the lead singer of Iron Maiden. Then there is n2j3, who's main interests include playing Soldat, obeying traffic signals and being Greek. SerialCookie is a British student who is currently pretending to study in the field of computing, though his actual agenda mostly consists of partying, with some sleeping involved too. Finally, Matias lives in Finland and is mainly interested in girls. He is right now doing a major in math, and does all our sums for us.

None of them bite, so don't be afraid to say hi to them around the network. Also, their email addresses are listed on the staff page.

Happy New Year and some network news

Message:
Hello Zoiters

First of all, we would like to wish everybody all the best in the new year, success with school and work and life in general, and above all good health.

Secondly, some network news: We've just relinked xerxes.zoite.net and it will be added to the pool later tonight. Unfortunately we had to abandon the irc.zoite.net sub-domain because of spambot activity. We have adopted chat.zoite.net as a replacement and it is now our new connection pool name. It will connect you to any of our active servers, please use this address.

Thank you all for supporting Zoite and for making the network your IRC home.

Temporary Connections Notice
Posted by: netjester
Date: 10:06am August 25th, 2005
Message:
Hello everyone, we're having some problems with floods at the moment, and as a result we've disabled the irc.zoite.net connection pool. If you want to connect to the network, you must do so using a specific server, not "irc.zoite.net". Instead use something like "laeta.zoite.net" for example. You can type this directly into your client or you can go to the Servers page and click a server to connect.

This is only a temporary measure, and we hope to return to normal service as soon as possible. In the meantime, be wary of any private messages you receive, don't click on any links you don't trust, and let us know if someone spams you on Zoite.

Sorry for any inconvenience, and thanks for sticking with us.

Message:
Hello everybody. July 18, 2005 is Zoite's 3rd birthday. A big thank-you to everybody for making Zoite your home on IRC. You all are the the very best people a network can ever dream of. Without your support and your loyalty over these past three years we could have never made it this far. You all rock! We promise to continue working hard on having stable servers and connections and a friendly environment. We hope we'll earn your continued patronage for years and years to come.

Well, I'm very glad to inform you all that we have made another addition to the network. From now on, affinity.zoite.net will be accepting connections to the network alongside the current servers. Feel free to check it out.

If this news seems unimportant to you, don't worry - we just get really excited about this kind of thing :)

Unfortunately the patch to services didn't fully resolve the problems with nickserv linking, so we've disabled this feature while we investigate the problem, sorry for any inconviences.

Hello, world.
Just to let you all know, you can send a picture of yourself to us to go on the stats pages next to your nick. To see what I mean check out the channel stats link and pick a channel to view stats from.
The rules are they have to be of you (no joke pictures of the teletubbies I'm afraid), decent, 100x100 pixels or smaller, and obviously either in JPG or GIF format. JPG is generally best for photos.
You can email your picture to me at netjester@zoite.net or hunt me down on the network.

Hi everyone... just a few pieces of news for you.

Nick linking is temporarily disabled
Due to a bug, we have temporarily disabled the ability to link nicknames through Nickserv. We're working on the problem, and the feature should be back very soon.

New staff
Also, our latest addition to staff is artful. She is now a locop on cerberus.zoite.net.

Security Warning

NEW MIRC VULNERABILITY
Recently (about 2 days ago), a bug in mIRC's DCC functions/handlers was discovered. We highly recommend you upgrade to the latest version (6.12) on www.mIRC.com ; unless you don't really care about your mIRC crashing =P

COMMUNITY SYSTEM
I only have a word for this, PERFECT. The new Zoite community system is nicely coming along, sbj is working hard to implement good security, stability, and most important (for you, users), many features.

OTHER
I might slack off school some time and work on some scripts for the site. I'm thinking of some tech trivia quizzes with score tables, web !seen/!lastspoke, stats management for channels, etc. Suggestions are always welcome.

Also, I would like to thank netjester for working so hard on the layout and PHP scripts, and also for showing me his l33t MySQL console client skillZ through kibitz. har har.

We might, as well, start our own radio station, so stay tuned 'cause we got a lot of cool shit for you =)

Finally, after a lot of work, the new Zoite.net is up! In the future, we'll be adding a 'community' system where users registered with NickServ will be able to create a personal profile with pictures and information; but for now, enjoy the pretty new site and give us some feed back.

Trivia Bot

Date: 11:00pm March 7th, 2003
Message:
I've been working with ackstorm on a computer-related trivia script. We got 73 questions so far (we started about 3 hours ago). We need more questions/answers for it. If you'd like to submit something, e-mail me (jadz0r@Zoite.net) with "trivia" as subject. The questions/answers format should be: answer|question.

Example: Internet Relay Chat|What does IRC stand for?

--- Thanks for your input.

As for other news... nothing really; There's people working on different layouts/designs for the site. We'll see who wins =)

Also, we're working on a 'community' for the site, where people can set profiles with pictures, post stuff, etc. Suggestions are always welcome.

There have been quite a few netsplits lately due to attacks. We hope this stops soon. There will be a lecture on DES encryption standard given by omin0us. He'll cover stuff like how to encrypt a word, vulnerabilities, DES password crackers and how they're programmed. It'll be done on Saturday (tomorrow, 15th) at around 3:00 PM CST. However, there'll be a log of it in the lectures section - in case you can't be there.
