Some IRC Basics
IRC is a simple form of Internet chat, which has been flourishing since it's beginnings in the early 90s.

Simply put, an IRC community is a collection of users and channels. Users are those who chat on the network, and channels are the places in which they chat. A channel is pretty much the same as a chat room on other chat sites.

There are some important differences though - IRC networks are generally run by people like you and I, and not by large companies. Also, in IRC channels, some users have more power than others, and can, for example, kick another user out of the channel. But more on this later. Let's get going.

Note: Don't worry - those with the power are generally those who can be trusted with it. Using your common sense and being polite will generally keep you from being kicked from a channel.

Installing an IRC client
In order to chat on IRC, you need to install an IRC client. This is a program, like your web browser, that allows you to log onto the network and chat to others.

There are a lot of different clients out there, but for Windows the most popular by far is mIRC. It's not a big program, and it's free. As of writing, the latest version is 6.16, and you can download it here:

http://www.mirc.com/get.html

When you have downloaded mIRC, go ahead and install it. The installation is fairly straightforward and it's pretty similar to installing a lot of other programs.

This Is A Work In Progress
Did I meantion that? Because it is. The rest of the guide is on it's way...
